Essence
Through shruti mantras*, it has been repeatedly established that the cow can not be killed. It is our good fortune that they bless us by giving us milk, etcetera. The shruti-granthas command that the cow is “avadhya” or prohibited from being killed.
Then, who will think of killing them?
He who kills cows, bulls or buffalos, thus, destroys govansha and commits a great sin.
*Examples of shruti mantras : “अघ्न्यम्” – [ऋक् १.
Saṃskr̥ta words in context: (1) Shruti Grantha (Śruti graṅtha) – a group of sacred books, under the domain of vedas, containing the vedas, the upanishads, the brahmins etcetera. (2)Avadhya – banned to kill. (3) Govansha (Govaṁśa) a – the cow family.
