There have been several instances when Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya Svami Sri Nischalananda Sarasvatiji Maharaja, Shankaracharya of Puri, Sri Govardhana Matha (referred to as Mahārājajī), has requested politicians and government authorities to arrest the fake Shankaracharya.

A message from The Shankaracharya of Puri, Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya Svami Sri Nischalananda Sarasvatiji Maharaja, addressed to the President of India, Prime Minister of India, Home Minister, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister of Odisha and Governor of Odisha was shared by the official twitter handle of Maṭha, Purī.
In the message Maharajaji has notified the Central and State Government not take his love for peace as a weakness. He would not tolerate any individual who is spreading anarchy in the garb of Shankaracharya of Puri.
He questions the addressed people if they would tolerate a fake Chief Minister, fake Prime Minister, fake Dalai Lama or fake Pope. If they would not, then is it not against national interest to support a fake Shankaracharya? To tolerate anarchy or frenzy in the religious and spiritual field or to support it in an obvious or hidden fashion is certainly fatal for nations existence and ideals, he warns.
Maharajaji alerts all that if they do not crush the miscreant in question, he would not step back from performing his duty within the limits of his human rights.
Addressing Yogi ji, he points out that this story (of the fake Shankaracharya) is from the state where he is the Chief Minister. He questions Modi ji if going against this miscreant would tarnish his image. Maharajaji requests Modi ji to give this a deep thought.
