Activities and habits that help in increasing sattva guna & reducing the dominance of rajoguna and tamoguna:
Food
- Vegetarian diet
- Cutting out tamasika foods
- Food regulation (what is eaten, how much, and when, not eating out)
- Consuming prasada
Daily habits
- Early sleeping/early waking (brahmamahurat)
- Daily exercise
- Pranayam
- Personal cleanliness
- Early morning cold water bathing
- Pausing between activities
- Reading and learning
- Observing menstruation related restrictions (for women)
Sacred Rituals & Activities
- Daily worship of Bhagavan
- Spending 1 hr daily in puja room/area
- Observing rules and rituals of our respective varna
- Observing fasts like Ekadashi
- Teertha yatras & bathing in sacred teerthas
- Visiting sattvika temples
- Daana
- Offering seva at temples
- Gau seva
- Brahmana seva
Attitude
- Refraining from using expletives
- Thanking ancestors/kula devta/ishta devata, & doing prarthna for dharma (vs only for personal wants)
- Respect for elders
- Abstaining from consuming foul content
- Avoiding verbal abuse and company of people with such habits
- Reducing habit of condemning others
Remembering Bhagavan
- Japa/bhajan
- Meditation
- Chanting of sacred texts in praise of Bhagavan.
- Listening to puranas and consuming dharmic content
- Sants and Gurus – listening to discourses of Guru
- Having the darshan of and spending time with Guru and sants.
