This entry is part 7 of 11 in the series Adi Shankaracharya & Mathas

The Paschimamnaya Sri Sharada Dvaraka Pith (Kalika Math) is located in Dwarka, Gujarat, on the tirtha Gomati river. The deities worshipped here are Siddheshvara and Shakti – Bhadrakali.

The Dvarakaadhish mandira is linked to the Dvaraka Math where Bhagavatpada Srī Adi Shankaracharya  consecrated the Sharada Shakti pitha.

The pitha is dedicated to Samaveda  and propagation of the Mahavakya –

तत् त्वम् असि
Tat Tvam Asi

The first Shankaracharya, direct student of Sri Adi Shankaracharya was Srī Hastamalakacharya. While, Sri Mandana Misraji was the first Acharya of Dvaraka Math.

Current Status:

Svami Sadananda jī Maharaja (image below) is considered as Shankaracharya of Paschimamnaya Sri Sharada Dvaraka Pith by some. However, this position is disputed and not accepted by Jagadguru Puri Shankaracharyaji, Govardhan Math.

In an official post by @govardhanmath, it was shared that in his lifetime, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Svami Swaroopananda Sarasvatiji Maharaja did not declare anyone his representative or successor and in-fact accused the person for declaring himself as His representative.

If Jagadguru Shankaracharya Svami Swaroopananda Sarasvatiji Maharaja had made anyone the successor of Jyotir Math or Dvaraka, he would have announced it publicly. In such a situation, misleading propaganda in his name is a sign of greed, fear, emotionality and indiscretion.

Notification about the anointment of a person or the announcement of the name of a person by the representative of Purī Pītha to the post of Acharya of Dvaraka and Jyotir Matha is unreliable.
